China UnionPay facilitates a new chapter in Cambodia-China film and cultural exchanges

On April 17 in the afternoon, the 2025 China Film Week in Cambodia kicked off at the Chaktukmuk Hall, Phnom Penh. The event is jointly hosted by the China Film Administration and Cambodia’s Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, with the China Film Archive and the Organizing Committee of Cambodia Asia Film Festival among the organizers. As the sponsor of the event, China UnionPay has played an active role in promoting Chinese film culture internationally, contributing to diverse collaborations through concrete actions.

For this event, the organizers have carefully selected six outstanding Chinese films, covering various genres. Creation of the Gods I: Kingdom of Storms and Creation of the GodsⅡ: Demon Force take the audience into a grand mythological world with epic storytelling and stunning visual effects. I Am What I Am 2 continues its inspirational tale of a teenage boy single-mindedly pursuing his dream. The poetic dance movie A Tapestry of a Legendary Land draws inspiration from a classic Chinese painting, showcasing the charm of Eastern art. Detective Chinatown 1900 blends suspense and comedy into a thrilling adventure, while Big World touches everyone with its heartwarming portrayal of day-to-day life.

On the day of the opening ceremony, China UnionPay also launched its campaign themed “Cinema Unites Worlds, UnionPay Connects Journeys” at the Chaktukmuk Hall. UnionPay’s global payment ambassador, YuanYuan the panda, engaged with visitors, while the exhibition of “Virtual Travel in China” merchandise highlighted fascinating Chinese culture, drawing many to express their strong interests to visit the country.

In addition to film and cultural exchanges, China UnionPay is also advancing its payment services in Cambodia. On March 10, Bakong, Cambodia’s national payment system, integrated with UnionPay’s mobile payment services. Now, Bakong wallet users can scan and pay in Cambodia, as well as at UnionPay merchants in China’s mainland and over 10 million merchants in 46 countries and regions outside the mainland via UnionPay’s global QR network. This has greatly enhanced the cross-border mobile payment experience for local residents.
